Preventing bullying begins with understanding emotions.
On 2 October, the third edition of the Conference on Bullying, Emotions and Municipal Police took place at the La Granja Ability Training Centre. This training event was organised by the Community Relations and Mediation Unit (URMEC) of the Terrassa Municipal Police, in collaboration with La Granja, Ability Training Centre.
More than 30 officers from across Catalonia, including local police and Mossos d'Esquadra, participated in this event with a common goal: to understand and combat violence in the classroom from a more human and emotional perspective.
Beyond theoretical training, it was a practical, experiential learning experience that allowed officers to explore how emotions work and how they influence situations of conflict, aggression, or bullying at school. Through activities such as ‘Leadership with the Horse,’ ‘The Anxiety Maze’ and ‘The Mission,’ participants were able to experience first-hand the emotional impact that bullying can have and practise skills such as empathy, self-awareness and emotional management.
At La Granja, we firmly believe that in order to support others, we must first understand them, and that only through empathy and emotional regulation is it possible to prevent and act effectively against bullying.
During the conference, the Terrassa Municipal Police also presented its URMEC intervention model, a benchmark in the prevention and response to school violence, to the other attending forces, along with the educational programmes it runs in the city's schools.
Thanks to the Terrassa Police for continuing to focus on this emotional and preventive approach, and to all the security forces who participated for their involvement and sensitivity in the face of such an important challenge as emotional well-being in the classroom.
